ASHA for Women’s busy and varied agenda

A summing up of the range of activities in the last year, and the numbers we were able to help.

Helpline and email inquiries received: 360

Total served:

Most common inquiries:

 

• Out-of-state calls from women needing assistance

• People wanting to learn how to get involved

• Relatives of domestic violence victims from the U.S. and India seeking assistance

• Client referrals from sister organizations

• Local social service agencies requesting information

• Individuals offering employment opportunities for clients

• Inquiries from local shelters

• Employment inquiries

• Emails from women abandoned overseas

 

Major issues reported by clients served:

 

• Domestic Violence

• Adultery and abandonment

• Trans-national abandonment

 

ASHA services provided - and help we always need:

 

• Transportation - bus tokens, taxi fare, donated cars etc

• Document translation

• Assistance and support with court visits to obtain protective orders, child support, etc

• Assistance with relocating clients and children to new or temporary homes

• Child care assistance

• Employment assistance and referrals

• Immigration and other legal counseling referrals

• Psychological counseling referrals

• Telephone cards for domestic and international calls

• Life-Skills Instruction: from budgeting to how to use public transportation

• Educational assistance - tuition fees, donated computers, etc

• Clothing assistance - especially outerwear, school uniforms, etc
